Mrs L. Davies - Chair of Governors
I joined the governing body in October 2015 as a Foundation Governor and in December 2017 I became the Chair. I enjoy fulfilling my role as a governor as I am a former pupil of the school, both my children attended and I am a lifelong member of St Peters Parish. My professional background has been in sales and finance. I have worked in accounts departments on sales and purchase ledgers and am currently the Manager of an industrial supply company. In my free time my passion has always been singing. I have been a member of Rossendale Ladies Choir since 1988 and I have been the treasurer since 2002. I am also a member of St Peters Church choir. I am honoured to be part of the governing body of this amazing school and am looking forward to supporting the head teacher and staff. I hope my own knowledge and life experiences can help to maintain the high standards that have already been set at the school.
Mr J. Boland - Vice Chair of Governors
I have served as a Foundation Governor for the Diocese since 2010, most recently at my son and daughters primary school for the last 4 years. During this time I held the posts of Chair of the Finance Committee, Link Governor for RE, PSHE, Safeguarding, Child Protection and the appointed Local Authority School Representative. I have been involved in the Sacramental Programme, both within the School and the Parish, which is possibly one of the most rewarding aspects of being involved within the life of any school. I took a career change some 10 years ago when I retrained to become a qualified Teacher within Further Education, with my specialist core subjects being Mathematics and English; and now I use this knowledge and experience within my current role as a National Quality Assurance Manager within the Education Sector. I am very privileged to be asked to be part of an outstanding school such as St Peters and be part of the ever developing vision for the school, supporting and working alongside an outstanding team.
Mrs H. Sullivan - Headteacher
As Headteacher of St Peter's since January 2013 I have the joy of seeing how our school continues to flourish and develop on a daily basis. I feel very fortunate to be blessed with supportive parents, talented staff, committed governors and of course the most delightful children! Not a days goes by without the sound of laughter filling our learning environment; it really is such a happy place to be. Away from school I am a Mum to two young children and enjoy spending time with my family and friends and appreciating the precious little moments life offers us each and every day.
Mrs M. Mussell - Deputy-head
I am the Deputy head at St Peter’s and class teacher in Class 2 on Thursdays and Fridays. Also I teach ICT to KS2 pupils on Wednesday afternoons and the rest of the time I work with small groups of targeted pupils, which the government currently give the school additional money for. I have taught at St Peter’s for 1 year, but have lots of experience teaching in 5 other schools and love the rewards, hard work, entertainment and delight that teaching brings. I am responsible for maths and computing in school this year and continue in my role as SENCO at St Peter’s, which is an area I have over 16 years of experience in. Out of work, my favourite things are spending time with my lovely family, as well as sailing, walking and anything outdoors.
Mrs J. Sarker - Chair of Curriculum, Staffing & Standards Committee
I have been a governor at St Peter’s since 2010 after a long association with the school/church and I am currently the Chair of the Curriculum, Staffing and Standards Committee and the Literacy Governor.
I am a qualified Nursery Practitioner and have worked extensively with pre-school children for over 20 years and previously managed a private day nursery. I currently work as a part time teaching assistant here at St Peters whilst also running the Keys after school club. I have a son and daughter who both really enjoy their time at St Peter’s and I spend much of my free time supporting them in their chosen sports and interests.
My role as a governor allows me to give something back to the school and be part of a team that ensures your children receive the best possible experiences and outcomes from their education. I enjoy the challenge of the role and working with a number of very dedicated individuals at the school.
Mr D. Norman
Mr J. McCann - Chair of Finance, Premises, Health & Safety Committee
I am a qualified accountant and have lived in the Parish for over 30 years. I was Managing Director of the UK section of a global company before I retired from the business seven years ago.
Following my retirement I felt I wanted to utilise the experience I gained in business. This led me to St. Peters where I felt my knowledge would be useful in helping the school to progress the education of our young children.
I am proud to be a governor at St. Peters and to serve as Chairman of the Finance and Premises Committee
Dr S. Lea - Vice Chair of Finance, Premises, Health & Safety Committee
I became a Foundation Governor in March 2015 but I am also a proud parent at St Peters. My role as a governor allows me to take an active part in the school family and work alongside others to maintain the extremely high standards set out by the school. I work in scientific research at the University of Manchester and have additional roles in recruitment, finance and management of both people and projects. Outside of work I enjoy playing rugby but mostly spending time with my family and friends.
Mr P. Argile
I have been a parent governor at St Peter’s since June 2017. I hope to make a positive contribution to an already outstanding school so it can continue to go from strength to strength. St Peter’s has had such a positive influence on my little lad’s life since he joined as an excited reception child in 2016, so I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to support the amazing staff here.
I am a Mechanical Engineer who specialises in Mechanical Building Services design. I have been involved in the design of many schools and have particular experience regarding the optimum environmental conditions in the classroom for learning and concentration. As a STEM ambassador, I have enjoyed coming into St Peter’s to share my enthusiasm and passion for engineering. Inspiring the next generation for the future is what motivates me, encouraging them to consider a career path, whatever it may be, that they will find rewarding, engaging and most importantly, enjoyable.
Mrs E. Bacon
I joined the teaching staff at St Peter’s early in 2009 and since then have relished being part of a professional team and school family which has strived to achieve and maintain outstanding education for our children. I am a relatively late convert to teaching, retraining after careers as a national newspaper journalist and full-time mum of two. I am St Peter’s Class 1 teacher and I adore welcoming our new children in September and seeing them flourish as the year progresses. I am also school’s reading subject leader and am passionate about finding better ways to engender the love for and skills needed for reading in our children. Beyond school I love spending time with my family, muddy walks in the glorious north-west countryside, wine-tasting, reading, music and gardening.
Mrs A. Goy
I joined the governing body as a parent foundation governor in September 1996 and succeeded Joe Connolly as Chair of Governors in 2006. I have a special affection for St Peter`s; I am a former pupil and my 3 children also attended the school. It is a pleasure and a privilege to be able to give something back to the school by supporting the head teacher and staff in their aim to provide your children with the best possible education in a caring and safe environment.
I have many years of management experience in the Civil Service and have applied that experience when working on the full range of governor committees and with the head teacher and staff. During my time as a governor I have seen the school go through many challenges and changes. The school has improved each time and staff and governors are determined to work together to continue that progress.
Mrs C. Langan
I joined as a foundation governor in October 2014 and am very proud to be a part of the ongoing development of the school. Both my children attended St. Peter's and now my grandson is following in their footsteps. My background is in the social housing sector and I have a wide range of management experience which I hope will be of value to St. Peter's. I feel strongly that every child is special and the provision of a caring, supportive, stimulating, and happy school environment is key to a child's development. I am grateful for the opportunity to be involved in such an outstanding school.
Mr P. Young
As a former pupil of St. Peter’s, and now the proud parent of 1 girl at the school, I am enjoying my new role as a Foundation Governor. As well as being a parishioner at St. Peter’s Church, I am also the treasurer for Friends of St. Peter’s (FOSP). Professionally, I am Assistant Curriculum Leader for Mathematics at Haslingden High School, where I particularly enjoy teaching A-Level Further Maths. In my free time I enjoy socialising with family and friends and walking my dog. I am also a keen runner and member of Rossendale Harriers.
Miss K. Gibbons
All governors can be contacted through the school address.
'The governing body forms a vital part of the team here at St. Peter's and the school benefits greatly from the support and challenge it offers. The governing body meets as a whole once every term.
There are two committees of the governing body which meet a minimum of once every term. They are the Curriculum and Staffing Committee and the Finance and Premises Committee.
There is a real depth of experience and expertise across the governing body and all governors strive to ensure St. Peter's is providing the quality Catholic education every child deserves.'
